Opening The Windows To Sunshine Again
We are quickly entering summer again, and if you’re from the UK, you’ll know just how hard-hitting this last heatwave was. Especially here by the sea, the weather in Cornwall always likes to keep us on our toes. Still, the seasons guide us with their soft reminders ~ the longer days, earlier mornings, and the blooming of nature around us.
I’ve been spending more time outside lately with Betty, wandering through woodland paths and muddy trails, letting the season find us gently. She’s happiest when we end up near the sea, nose pressed into the salty wind, completely convinced every beach belongs to her.
Earlier in May, I went for a walk while my daughter was visiting from London, and it was the first time I truly noticed just how green the trees had become. Such a simple thing, yet such a wonderful feeling. It’s like a breath of new life recharges us all, and while I adore each season for all different reasons, the brighter months definitely spark new life and inspiration.
Winter has a way of making us look within, the months are reflective and there’s beauty in that stillness. I think many of us struggle with motivation during that time too. Yet somehow, there’s always this pressure to keep pushing forward regardless.
But finally, it feels like it’s time to open those windows again.
This season especially has reminded me that growth rarely arrives dramatically. It’s gradual and gentle. Sometimes it’s simply opening the door a little wider, taking the longer route through the woods, or wearing the jewellery that makes you feel a little more like yourself again.
At the end of May, I also took time to celebrate the birthday of my mum.
Spring has always carried her energy for me somehow. With the flowers that begin to bloom again, especially peonies, which were one of her favourites. The sun which sits a little higher, which always makes the sea twinkle.
And the feeling that even after the darkest seasons, life continues.
So if things feel a little slower here at times, know it’s intentional.
I always try to take these brighter months to look after myself a little more and allow the season to breathe new life back into me. I’m practising the art of slowing down without guilt, and reminding myself that the energy poured into the pieces I create matters just as much as the finished jewellery itself.
Especially now, when hand-crafted creativity feels more precious than ever.
With the sudden rise of artificial intelligence, there’s something incredibly comforting about choosing pieces made by human hands. Pieces shaped by imagination, emotion, imperfection, and care. I think there’s real magic in that.
Personally, this is something I’d rather invest in when it’s something you hope to treasure for years, wear close to your heart, and perhaps one day even pass down.
Very soon, I’ll also be sharing a little something special I’ve been quietly working on in collaboration with Sally Sutherland. A collection inspired by the seasons, the elements, and the beauty of nature’s constant changes. Something that feels incredibly close to the heart of Gemheaven Jewellery, and I cannot wait to share it with you soon.
