Labradorite: A Mirror to the Soul

With ties to the Northern Hemisphere, where she was first discovered, Labradorite is a crystal deeply connected to the night sky. Known as the stone of all-seeing, she holds a beautifully protective energy that will help you uncover your true self. She’s been a firm favourite of mine for many years, inspiring my work in countless ways, and it’s easy to see why. Let’s discover her magic together...

Origin of Labradorite

Labradorite was first discovered in the late 1700s on the rugged coast of Labrador, Canada. As part of the Feldspar family, Labradorite is chemically related to both Moonstone and Sunstone, and holds a similar ethereal glow that shimmers from within when held towards light. She is a beautifully protective stone, good for mental clarity, dream recall and amplifying energy. She strengthens your aura and is a perfect stone for meditation, manifestation and spiritual development.

Labradorescence

As unique and beautiful as the night sky, labradorite holds within herself a mirage of colour. This spectacular optical phenomenon is called ‘labradorescence’ - an effect that occurs when light interacts with the mineral structure within the stone. So, as you hold a piece of Labradorite towards the light, you will see an impressive display of colours shimmer and shift across its surface. The mesmerising flashes of labradorescence often leave me spellbound.

Aurora Borealis

Inuit folklore believed that the mystical glow of Labradorite came from the frozen fire of the Aurora Borealis itself, as though the stars had fallen from the sky and merged with the earth to form this magical stone. According to folklore, the Auroras were trapped in the stone until a warrior struck it with his spear, releasing the lights back to the sky – while some remained forever trapped in the Labradorite. I love this folklore as it gives an otherworldly quality to Labradorite that captivates me every time.

A Mirror to the Soul

With self-discovery and self-exploratory qualities, Labradorite is like a mirror to the soul, helping guide you towards your calling. She reflects your inner knowledge, helping you enhance your visionary field and expanding your imagination. Looking into this magical, transformative stone will help bring your awareness back to the present moment, giving you a creativity boost that will help turn your ideas into a reality. She is the perfect ally to have by your side when you are working on yourself.

While the Aurora Borealis dances across the night sky, reminding us of the vastness of the universe, Labradorite’s iridescent beauty appears to glow from within, inviting us to look inwards and discover ourselves.

Intuition and Protection

Known as the Stone of Magic, Labradorite is a transformative stone believed to enhance intuition and gain inner wisdom. This powerfully, protective stone helps to quiet mind clutter, stop overanalysing, connect to your subconscious and help you make intuitive decisions.

Labradorite is commonly linked to the third eye chakra, which governs insight, intuition and psychic abilities. Working with this stone is, therefore, believed to open the chakra and heighten inner awareness.

She has a protective energy which protects against negative influences, eliminating fear and calming rage. People with a sensitive nature are often drawn to this stone, and I find myself among them.

Other qualities of Labradorite

Along with all the beautiful, powerful and protective qualities listed above, Labradorite is also believed to help with restful sleep and dream recall, transformation and creativity. She symbolises happiness, brings peacefulness and helps improve communication and self-control.

With so many wonderful qualities, it is easy to understand why I find myself so easily drawn to this magical stone so often within my work. What is your favourite quality of Labradorite? Let me know in the comments below!
